Jack

Samurai Jack is the main character of the cartoon Samurai Jack. He is voiced by Phil LaMarr.

Appearance

Early in the series Jack's face was depicted as long and rectangular, however later in the show it became more like a square with a distinct eastern look, this was possibly done by the animators in-order to create a greater resemblance to his father. Jack also has long jet black hair that he ties into a tiny bun similarly to a number of his people who have been shown living in an area that greatly resembled the Edo period of Japan however the culture was more similar to the Nara and Heian periods, Jacks clothing consists of a simple white kimono with a gray lining on the sleeves and outer edge of his clothes tied together with a white sash as well as a pair of wooden sandals that were destroyed in one episode by a group of bikers, however they were later replaced by a jet repairman called Tengu who also crafted the very same sandals for his family and this later proved to be a great asset in allowing Jack to defeat the biker gang.

Personality

Jack strongly exhibits the characteristics of a stoic hero. He is unfailingly kind and generous, and will always attempt to help those in need as well as dispatching sage like wisdom to those he believes are in need of guidance. However a running gag in the show is his inability or reluctance to understand the technology of the future such as in one episode Jack had attempted to escape one of Aku's fortresses after rescuing two fairy like creatures who accidentally crash landed on earth and almost ended up being imprisoned by Aku by driving a hover car but did not know how to control it, explaining that he prefers to walk instead.

Biography

Samurai Jack was born as the son of the lord who ruled an area of land where Aku first appeared on Earth. As a boy Samurai Jack's family was separated when Aku rose again after his destruction and destroyed his Kingdom. Soon Samurai Jack traveled around the world to train to fight Aku both physically and mentally. Soon Samurai Jack went to defeat Aku, but before he could deliver the final blow, he was sent to the future. Samurai Jack was first surprised of Aku's evil future, but soon learned and went on his way helping others and searching for a way to travel back to his own time and undoing the future that Aku has created.

Jack's parents

Jack's actual name remains unknown; he decided to name himself Jack as he was called that name by three teenage aliens using it as slang. His father was kidnapped by Aku. Jack once fought a gigantic rock like lava creature. But the creature used to be human but was cursed. He was a viking hero who fought evil. He was like that for hundreds of years and never aged. Jack fought him and then the creature was normal again. He was based on Thor. He got his sword back. Since he never aged for years he turned into an incredibly old man and died. Valkyries took his dead body to the afterlife. At the end of the episode it shows him young again with Odin and others in the afterlife. Jack had a bad side that was created from Aku's magic.

Samurai Jack (voiced by Phil LaMarr is the son of the Japanese Emperor who ruled the area where Aku originally appeared on Earth, and is banished to the future by Aku during their first battle, where he is left in every episode to search for a way home. He was born on the day that his father defeated Aku and he seems to be the only mortal (aside from his father) to be a match to Aku (which explains why so many will train him when he only shows the insignia of his father's kingdom).

As a boy, after his father was captured by Aku, Jack traveled around the world to prepare both physically and mentally for his confrontation with Aku. He studied under various scholars, such as Egyptian thinkers, and attempted to master each art of combat from the cultures he met, training with African warriors, Viking sailors, Robin Hood, Mongolian warriors, Shaolin monks, Greek Olympic contestants, Russian Cossacks, and several others (it should be noted that many of these cultures didn't exist at the same period of time).

Later, after being sent into the future, he is taught the ability to jump hundreds of feet into the air by a species of blue gorilla and a jungle man, thus allowing him to reach vast areas he previously could not reach while also giving the impression that he can fly, quoting a friend he rescued (Aku: "Wha? You can fly!?" Jack: "No, jump good.") as the taken aback Aku underestimated Jacks' abilities. Jack's magic sword was forged by Jack later gains (though it is unknown if he kept but likely he did as at the end of the fight with Aku he says "it's only a matter of time" as he holds up the gem in triumph) a blue colored gem called the Eye of Chronos that once belonged to, the Titan of Time. It was presumed to allow time travel when combined with two other identical gems (which are possibly in the possession of Aku as he was the one who wielded them against Jack). This artifact is ironically but unintentionally provided by Aku when he attempted to revive Chronos to destroy Jack.

Skills and Abilities

Master combatant: Jack has shown impressive mastery in many styles of hand to hand combat some of which include, Praying mantis, Tiger and Eagle, as well as a number of weapons that range from spears and staffs to nunchukus and shurikens, as shown in his fights at the Dome of Doom.

Master swordsmanship specialist: Aside from Jack's ability to proficiently wield a vast number of weaponry he showed the greatest amount of skill with his sword, this was most likely due to the fact that the only weapon capable of destroying Aku was Jack's blade, allow him to combat a number of enemies easily as shown in his battles with the beetle drones as well as the countless bounty hunters that Aku sends to capture Jack, and was shown to not only to be equal in terms of skill to the Scotsman and possibly more so.

Expert Strategist: A good example of this was when Jack formulated a plan to free a colony of talking dogs and protect them from a thousand Scarab drones using only the existing equipment and raw materials from the quarry, this resulted in the destruction of the majority number of drones.

Shaolin training: Aside from being taught how to utilize a number weapons and hand to hand combat styles from the monks at the temple where Jack spent some time training in his final days before the inevitable showdown with Aku in the past he was also taught how to hone his senses to levels far greater than that of an average human being, as this was quite useful in anticipating and effectively counter acting to an incoming attack as seen in his battle with the three blind archers and had to rely on his remaining senses.

Experience: Jack also has an astounding growth rate, after he had fought off an army of Beetle drones for the first time since his arrival from the past Aku had noted that Jack had become stronger since their last battle implying that Jack seems to become stronger from every fight similarly to a Saiyan from the DragonBall Z franchise.

Enhanced speed: Through years of intensive training Jack has learned to easily dodge incoming projectiles such as arrows and bullets.

Near flight capabilities: During his adventures Jack came across a gorilla like society that taught him how to jump hundreds of feet in the air, by tying heavy objects to certain points on his body (A medium sized stone on each ankle and a very large boulder on his back) and putting him through rigorous training such as jumping over a stick being held a foot above the ground and push ups while a number of the blue gorilla creatures add more weight to the boulder by jumping on top of it.
